Health Pauses as an Entrepreneur: My Post-Op Journey
Becoming an entrepreneur requires a shift—especially for someone like me, who thrives in collaboration and strong team dynamics. Even coming from the startup world, where I had grown from a generalist into managing teams of specialists, stepping into entrepreneurship brought a different kind of intensity. Suddenly, I was back to wearing every hat: switching from operations to strategy, from sales to execution, often within the same hour. The constant context-switching is mentally demanding, and at times, overwhelming.
But I’ve been lucky. My partnership with Rachel—and the foundational systems we’ve put in place—has allowed us to build a company designed to scale without requiring a massive team. We’ve prioritized clarity, flexibility, and efficiency so the work can keep moving, even when life interrupts.
And recently, life did interrupt.
This June, I had to undergo a supracervical hysterectomy. As someone who is BRCA positive, I’ve spent the past several years going through a series of prophylactic surgeries: a double mastectomy, a salpingo-oophorectomy…I thought I was done. But the journey wasn’t over.
I’m now three weeks post-op, and I’m feeling the absence—of time at work, of time with my family, of the pace I’m used to keeping. But I’m also trying to embrace the perspective that comes with a health pause.
In the spirit of acknowledging the pause rather than powering through it. What I can offer today is something simple and honest: the shows (most of them center women) that got me through the hardest early weeks of recovery.
I’ll share more soon. Until then, I hope you honor your own pauses, however they show up.
